Our contributing writer Ali Carter toured the east coast with Boston-based musicians Pariuh and Couples Counseling for two weeks in June. Read her tour diary for a city-by-city account of their do-it-yourself saga, featuring grimey basements, waterfalls, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and more, which we’ll be running in a five-part series over the next two weeks. Boston events
This past weekend, artists and sand-builders of all kinds took to Revere Beach to show off their sand craftsmanship for the 11th annual Revere Beach Sand Sculpting Festival. We were there with camera in hand (and sunblock, of course), to give you a glimpse at some of the finest sand creations of the weekend and the artists behind them. No offense to your dribble castles, but these structures were on an entirely new level. Check it out: More

Home Distilling: A How-to and How-not-to for DIY Whiskey Fans
DIY
Why does wood make whiskey taste better? American whiskey, by law, has to be aged in new, charred oak barrels, but why? What about putting spirits in wood makes them taste better? I decided to find out for myself, first by trying to age some in my own barrel at home, and finally, by finding out what local microdistillers do to make their whiskies so tasty.

Video Premiere: Dylan Ewen – ‘Fkuu Me’
Video
Jamaica Plain's resident sad boy Dylan Ewen knows how to get emotional in the grooviest way possible. The BUFU Records jack-of-all-trades often croons about the perils of heartbreak, failure, and boredom in the most blunt way possible, which, in some misery-loves-company type of way, ends up translating into some pretty sweet party music. Harvard Women’s Rugby Team Launches Powerful ‘Rugged Grace’ Photo Campaign
Sports
Usually when you think rugby, you probably think sweaty, European men in short shorts, running and huddled up around a ball that has some semblance to our country's native pigskin. However, the Harvard Women’s Rugby team has published a photo project that not only celebrates everything they love about the sport and the teammates they spend tireless hours with in training, but that shares their message of creating a positive body image for women. Take Our BDCwire User Survey and Help Us Improve!
BDCWire
It's self-help time over at BDCwire. We're breaking out all our old "Chicken Soup for the Soul" and running off to an inner wellness retreat in the mountains with the hopes of returning a more friendly, approachable website. It's time we figure out what works and what is giving you, our loyal and awesome readers, the most headaches. There's only one problem: we need you! Yes, it seems counter-intuitive to work on inner wellness by asking others to tell us what's wrong. What can we say, we love the irony. More

Photos: Boston Parties on Wheels to Celebrate Donna Summer
Photos
Friday night, Boston showed its groovy side, putting on a free roller disco party on City Hall Plaza. Thousands showed up to show their tastiest roller rink moves, many in retro garb, moving to the sounds of Dorchester's DJ Kon. The event was created with the help of Together Boston in order to honor the late great Donna Summer, who passed away last year. Some of Summer's greatest hits were played, and disco culture was revived in Boston for one hot summer night. More

Readings at the Bar, Shakespeare on the Common, and More Events This Week
Boston events
Another week, another set of sweet options for stuff to do in Boston: Drink for a good cause, learn how to make drinks for a good cause (drinking delicious drinks), or see some free Shakespeare on the Common, probably without the drinks because those plays are hard enough to understand when you’re sober.

The Fresh and Onlys, Discovering New Tools and Ways to Use Them
Music
The Fresh and Onlys' frontman Tim Cohen credits his revitalized approach to songwriting to living in complete and utter isolation when penning tracks for "House of Spirits" (released last month on Mexican Summer). The band's fifth album is moodily downtempo, while simultaneously saturated with dense harmonies and hooks. But Cohen's intention wasn't necessarily to plumb heavy emotions from listeners--it was to take advantage of his geography. More
